For this Sagaponack weekend home, Sydney Maag focused on an elevated, kid-friendly atmosphere that could grow with the family. Recently relocated to New York City, the clients had purchased the simple home as a getaway but needed Sydney’s eye to outfit it elegantly, keeping the vibe playful and hip without tipping into precious.
The project included structural renovations, like converting a former porch off the kitchen into an enclosed living room with a fireplace; because the children’s playroom also connects directly to the kitchen, these changes gave the adults a refined space with views of the pool and pool house while still being in proximity to the children.
In the basement, Sydney carved out spaces for both adults and children, creating a movie room with a celestial ceiling and additional play spaces with flooring safe for rough-housing.
Throughout, Sydney wove in the colors of the local landscape with brighter accents, layering herringbone floors, plaster, natural fibers, antiques, and vintage finds to give the home a sense of depth and to ensure its role as a one-of-a-kind retreat.
